SIAL Canada 2018 Roundup
SIAL Canada is the only tradeshow aimed at professionals in not only food processing, but in retail and food service as well. It provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity in North America where you can meet with an unparalleled number of clients and prospects from the agri-food industry at large. I’m thrilled to share my SIAL Canada 2018 roundup including the SIAL Innovation Contest winners, my time in the SIAL Expert Hub and more cheese please at the Palais des Congrès in Montreal.
SIAL Innovation Contest
Prior to the show, I was one on the panel to pick the top 10 innovations finalists. Before I reveal the top three, enjoy watching this video to see our jury deliberation.
The Gold, Silver and Bronze winners will receive a free space at each of the SIAL Network’s exhibitions and will equally divide $20,000 being given by Nielsen. The SIAL Network will also provide an exhibition space for free at all the 2018 SIALs — in China, the Philippines, India, Abu Dhabi, and Paris.
The recipients of this year’s 2018 SIAL Innovation Grand Prizes are:
Gold winner: Pea Pops by Three Farmers (Saskatchewan, Canada)
Silver winner: Ready-to-eat vegan meals by Cucina & Amore (United States)
Bronze winner: Cricket-based protein bars by Crickstart (Quebec, Canada)
Congratulations to all the innovative products at SIAL!
SIAL Expert Hub
SIAL identified experts to respond to specific topics in order to increase business development and tradeshow experience. As the Health Expert, I was thrilled and honoured to be part of the SIAL Canada unique expert network. I led panel discussions about 1) Future Food – What the Heck is Clean Meat 2) Vegan, Vegetarianism and The Rise of Plant-based Beverages and 3) The Latest foods and beverages designed for Digestive Health. And I was a panelist for Food Waste, Health Innovations and Consumer Trends led by other SIAL Experts.
Can you handle the Cheese?
Cheese is the product that is most sought-after by SIAL Canada visitors! With CETA coming into effect this year, the Canadian government predicts that 17,700 tonnes of additional European cheese are expected to reach the Canadian market. With ever-increasing demand for cheese products, SIAL estimates that the North American cheese market will reach a value of $3.7 billion by 2021.
Say Cheese
You know I’m a lover of artisan cheese! This “condition” dates backs to one of my fondest food memories as a child. At SIAL Canada, the cheese sector is a place of prominence – given its own dedicated space. I’m enjoying Cheese Expert Gurth Pretty’s explanation of delicious Spanish cheese. Gurth gave me the large triangle piece of cheese on the right side of the plate to conduct more taste testing back on home – YUM!
It was an incredible time at SIAL. I want to thank the organizers for an excellent event!
I’d love to share my extensive food, nutrition and entrepreneurial expertise, passion and
industry know-how at your next conference, event or symposium.
